The printing press liberated scribes from manual copying. The typewriter liberated writers from hand cramps. The internet liberated writers from post office lines and human interaction. Finally, a new invention can liberate writers from their greatest bane: rejection.
The Rejection Generator rejects writers before an editor looks at a submission. Inspired by psychological research showing that after people experience pain they are less afraid of it in the future, The Rejection Generator helps writers take the pain out of rejection.
The Rejection Generator was conceived of, designed, and built by Stoneslide Media. Try it anytime right here.
Writers who want to be pre-rejected simply choose a category of rejection and fill out their email address, and a rejection is immediately sent to them. Each letter is ingeniously painful and discouraging.
At any given time, there are seven categories of rejection live and available. Regular rotation of the rejections prevents users from becoming inured to any one approach. Categories include: The Thumper; Ego Shredder; Old Belcher; and The Civil Gesture. The Generator continuously creates more.
The Rejection Generator was made for all writers. Emerging writers can utilize it to remember life before their first break. Writers well-established in their careers can use it for balance: no matter how successful a writer is, each year there are Pulitzers to lose, as well as National Book Awards, PENs, and Nobels to not be selected for; maintaining a sharp sense of rejection as award announcements approach is important. And, of course, beginning writers not used to or only barely used to the sheer weight of rejection that lies ahead of them can use the Generator to get ready for the future. The creators of The Rejection Generator recommend using it regularly to maintain a high RI, or rejection immunity.
“Rejection be not proud, though some have called thee mighty,” said Sylvester Stonesman, one of the designers of The Rejection Generator. “I think this project proves that any source of misery in human life can be overcome with innovative thought and judicious use of technology. I hope every writer will avail him- or herself of this revolutionary development. And it’s free! It’s great. I promise. Really, really great. Please, please try it. I’ve put so much work into this thing. I’ve neglected my two-year-old son for months. Please.”
The publishers and editors at The Stoneslide Corrective and Stoneslide Books began the design and machine work on The Rejection Generator in 2011. It was released in April 2012. The team behind this successful innovation is now working on adapting it to the field of romantic rejection, where they believe it can help millions of non-writers.
