We welcome unsolicited submissions. We read them blind, and your work is judged, not your reputation or publishing history. Only as we complete the selection process do we reveal to ourselves what your name is and who you are.

End the Pain of Rejection

Rejection is a necessary and often painful part of the writing life. But your expectations can greatly affect your eventual experience.

We at The Stoneslide Corrective have generously developed an online Rejection Generator, through which you can send yourself some of the nastiest, dream-crushing rejection letters imaginable. After that, real rejection will be no more stinging than a glass of lemonade. Who else would do this for you?

Try The Rejection Generator.

What do we want? We’ll look at any genre. We like serious, comic, lighthearted, dark, emotional, and acerbic. The important factor for us is that the work use story, characters, emotions, and other fundamental elements of storytelling to think, to ask questions, to move the mind forward. To get a better idea what the heck that means, check out a few of our stories and read this essay about why we call ourselves The Stoneslide Corrective.

You can also sign up for our email newsletter to learn about future contests and writing prompts.

    Submitting to Stoneslide Books

We like novels with strong character development and narrative thrust, brought out with writing that’s clear and expressive. If you have a manuscript like that, we’d like you to send it to us.

Fiction is the driving force behind what we do. However, we don’t draw distinctions where they aren’t needed. If you have a book-length work of non-fiction, memoir, or something else that seems to fit with our approach, please send it.

We do not read simultaneous submissions of book-length works.

    Submitting to The Stoneslide Corrective

We accept unsolicited submissions for all departments in The Stoneslide Corrective, including “Correctives,” “Stories,” “A Life Examined,” “Frontiers of Knowledge,” and “The Cynic’s Notebook.” We accept short fiction of any length. If it works as a short story, it’ll go in the magazine. If it works better as a book, we’ll make it a book. If it’s something else, we’ll invent the form for it.

For The Stoneslide Corrective we read simultaneous submissions of works up to 7,500 words in length. If you’re submitting simultaneously, in your email please tell us that it’s a simultaneous submission. And of course, should it be accepted elsewhere while it’s still under consideration with us, let us know immediately.

Where to send submissions and how

Send submissions to: submissions [at] stoneslidecorrective [dot] com

For very long works, send a good representative chunk from the beginning of the piece in the body of the email. Include a few sentences describing the rest of the piece. What kind of beast is it? Why should we read the rest of it?

Make your subject line in this format: Submission: [Your first name] [Your last name] [Title of your submission]
