a bad habit for good readers

stoneslidecorrective.com

I get a lot of good mileage out of hard work and luck, but when the things I write are good it’s the result of critiques from other writers. My current critique group has some awesome writers who are also awesome people. They are James Hanna, Tory Hartmann, Bardi Rosman Koodrin, Lisa Meltzer Penn, and the person who got it all rolling, Ann Foster.

Way back when in Iowa City, Iowa, the critique group I was lucky enough to be in had these equally awesome writer people: Andy Douglas, René Paine, and the late Meg White, who got us together, got us started, and kept us going.

In Vermont and New Hampshire I had the good fortune to be in a group with Tim Hozier, Jared Norful, and a great person named Amber. Jonathan T.F. Weisberg, my co-founder and co-publisher, was also in that group.

I also wish to mention my thankfulness for having met my fellow members of San Francisco & Peninsula Writers, a branch of the California Writers Club. They’re great people and fun to be with, even Martin Shane Dowd and Linda Okerlund.

A lot of times we have more friends who aren’t in our line of work than who are. That’s true of me. My friends who don’t write and my family members and relatives who don’t write, all these people deserve my thanks, too. I am so deeply grateful. This goes even more for the folks who, over the years, have occasionally been thrown manuscripts to read.

Most importantly and most dearly I thank my beautiful wife and love, Jennifer. Not only would none of this be possible without her, none of anything would be possible, or worthwhile.
